How To Save Coral Reefs

                                                      How To Save Coral Reefs
Did you know that coral reefs in the Pacific Ocean are losing their corals more quickly than we have ever noticed?. This is because climate change is making the ocean too hot during the summer so the coral is not used to the ocean being so hot. Many of the world's coral reefs have already increased in temperature by one to two degrees in Fahrenheit. According to Kirsten Marhaver on TED Talk, "reefs have suffered through centuries of intense human abuse".The reefs are letting out the colored algae that thrive in their skin and the clear bleached tissue that is left behind often dies and then rots away.

Sewage is also playing a role in damaging coral reefs. When sewage and waste from farming go up, the position of the nitrogen in the water causes algae to grow, which kills coral reefs.According to recent research by Stephanie Wear,The Nature Conservancy's lead scientist for coral reef conservation,Sewage is shockingly widespread throughout the world,A full 96 percent of places that have both people and coral reefs have a sewage pollution problem". Farmers need to stop letting so much runoff into the oceans. This is what is killing coral reefs.

If people want to save coral reefs they should donate to an organization that helps with the cleanup of reefs. We should use less water everyday so that it does not become runoff into the oceans. People should not put their boat anchors down on the reef. If you want to go diving to see a reef you should not touch any of the reef parts. The reefs are very breakable and if you touch them that could cause grim damage to the reefs. If you plant a tree, that could help prevent  the runoff from getting into the oceans and would help stop increasing planet temperatures which have a big impact on coral reefs and the oceans. People should visit Marine Parks so that they can learn more about how to help keep our ecosystems clean and healthy.

Regenerative Farming

Welcome to my blog!, I am writing about how climate change is affecting people and the earth everyday. This blog is important because people are really hurting the earth with climate change.

According to the ABC News article on climate change, experts say, "if drastic changes aren't made now, the planet could "blow past" the carbon budget in the next decade (Smerden). According to the ABC News article on climate change, experts said to "cut back on beef consumption, which has a monumental carbon footprint compared to any other meat".

Regenerative Farming is meant to keep carbon underground in the soil so that not so much of it floats into the atmosphere and cause more climate change. The carbon that has been kept in earth's soil is floating into the atmosphere through farming, which is  making it go from a solid into a gas. This shows that we need to take care of the environment by doing regenerative farming more often.

Soils are a really good carbon sink after the oceans. "There is wide variability in the estimates of the amount of carbon stored in the soils globally"(Andre Leu).Climate change not only affects our planet, it affects how healthy our soil is. If our soil is unhealthy because of climate change, then farmers cannot grow the foods that we eat on their farms. Climate change also affects how healthy our plants are. From what I have read about regenerative farming, it seems like doing this would fix our climate change issue. This is a good solution that we need to start trying if we want to save our environment and help the next generations keep the environment healthy.

So if we want to help stop climate change, you need to go out and vote on some solutions on how to stop it and do regenerative farming. If you don't believe climate change is a problem then you don't care about how unhealthy our environment is. I believe we need to stop climate change. It is not ok that we are treating our earth like this. The earth was not made to have people make climate change. The earth was made for us to live on and keep it healthy. People need to cut down on so much carbon. This issue is just going to affect future generations later in life if we don't fix this issue now while we can.
